A puppy mill in Iowa was shut down and over 700 dogs were rescued. The dogs were then distributed to various animal shelters across the country, including one in Studio City, to increase their chances of finding permanent homes.
Wagmor Pets Dog Rescue in Studio City took in 53 of the 700 dogs that were rescued from a puppy mill in Iowa. To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, the rescue is hosting an adoption event on Sunday.
Melissa Bacelar from Wagmor Pets Dog Rescue stated that around 30 rescue groups participated in the dog rescue operation, and her rescue group is the only one from California.
Bacelar said that the dogs came from a large puppy mill located in the Midwest.
Before going to their foster homes, the dogs will undergo a preliminary examination and be bathed.
The adoption of the rescued dogs can start after a few days, but according to Bacelar, it may take a few weeks before they are brought to their permanent homes.
Melissa Bacelar of Wagmor Pets Dog Rescue expressed that it is a heart-wrenching experience to see the rescued dogs, as they have never had the chance to live their lives as dogs, and each one of them is deserving and beautiful.
